Carbon dioxide laser

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001634

A gas laser that uses a mixture of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and helium as the active medium to produce a coherent beam of infrared light. The laser operates by exciting the vibrational and rotational energy levels of the CO2 molecules. It is one of the most powerful and efficient continuous-wave lasers, widely used in industrial cutting, welding, and medical applications.
