Coherent radiation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002180

A beam of photons, such as a laser beam, that exhibits a definite phase relationship between different points in space or at different times. In spatially coherent radiation, the phase difference between any two points across the beam's profile is constant. Temporal coherence means there is a fixed phase relationship at any given point over a period of time, which corresponds to a narrow spectral linewidth.
