Charge-transfer adsorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001915
A type of chemisorption in which adsorption involves a transfer of electrons between the adsorptive and the solid, often with no bond breaking in the adsorbing species. It is called oxidative when the solid loses electrons to the adsorbate, as with oxygen taking electrons from zinc oxide to form adsorbed O2-, and reductive when the solid gains electrons from it. The terms refer to the change of the solid, not of the adsorbate.
