Adsorbate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000279

The substance that accumulates on the surface of a solid or liquid, known as the adsorbent, during the process of adsorption. This species consists of atoms, ions, or molecules drawn from a surrounding gas, liquid, or dissolved solid phase to form a film at the interface. The quantity of adsorbate is expressed as surface concentration, with units such as moles per square meter (mol/m²).
