Superequivalent adsorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011598
The adsorption of counter-ions onto a charged surface in an amount exceeding the initial surface charge, leading to a reversal of the net charge of the surface. This phenomenon often occurs due to specific adsorption of certain ions or the formation of a second layer of adsorbed species. It is particularly relevant in colloid chemistry and electrochemistry.
