Negative adsorption

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007801

A phenomenon where the concentration of a solute in the interfacial layer between two phases is lower than its concentration in the bulk phase. This occurs when the solute molecules are repelled from the interface or when the solvent molecules are preferentially adsorbed. It is the opposite of positive adsorption, where the solute concentration is higher at the interface.
