Gibbs adsorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004874
The excess concentration of a component at an interface compared to its concentration in the bulk phases. This phenomenon arises from the tendency of molecules to minimize the interfacial free energy. It is quantified by the Gibbs adsorption isotherm, which relates the surface excess to changes in surface tension with concentration.
