Giant cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004873
A large, multinucleated cell formed by the fusion of several individual cells, often macrophages, in response to chronic inflammation or the presence of foreign bodies. These cells are a characteristic feature of granulomatous inflammation, where they attempt to engulf and degrade persistent foreign material or pathogens. Langhans giant cells, for example, are associated with tuberculosis and sarcoidosis.
