Giant axon
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004871
An unusually large nerve fiber found in certain invertebrates, such as squid, that allows for very rapid signal transmission. Its large diameter reduces electrical resistance, enabling faster propagation of action potentials compared to smaller axons. The squid giant axon is a classic model for studying neuronal excitability.
