Action potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000167
A rapid, transient change in the electrical potential across the membrane of an excitable cell, such as a neuron or muscle cell. It involves a depolarization phase followed by repolarization, mediated by the opening and closing of voltage-gated ion channels. This electrical signal propagates along the cell membrane without decrement.
