Action spectrum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000168
A plot of the relative response of a chemical or biological photoprocess, per incident photon, against the wavelength of the radiation. Because it is normalised to incident rather than absorbed light, it differs from the efficiency spectrum, which divides by absorbed photons. Matching it to an absorption spectrum identifies the pigment responsible, as chlorophyll was identified for photosynthesis in leaves.
