Excitatory post-synaptic potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004188
A temporary depolarization of the post-synaptic membrane caused by the flow of positively charged ions into the post-synaptic cell. This electrical event makes the post-synaptic neuron more likely to fire an action potential. It is typically mediated by neurotransmitters like glutamate binding to ligand-gated ion channels.
