Synaptic transmission

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011744

The process by which a neuron communicates with a target cell, such as another neuron or a muscle cell, across a specialized junction called a synapse. It involves the release of chemical messengers, known as neurotransmitters, from the presynaptic neuron's terminal into the synaptic cleft. These neurotransmitters then bind to receptors on the postsynaptic cell membrane, inducing an electrical or biochemical response.
