Retrograde neurotransmission
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010303
A form of synaptic communication where a chemical messenger is released from the postsynaptic neuron and travels backward across the synaptic cleft to act on receptors located on the presynaptic neuron. This mechanism allows the postsynaptic cell to modulate the activity of the presynaptic terminal. Endocannabinoids are well-known retrograde neurotransmitters.
