Surface amount

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011627

The excess amount of a substance accumulated at an interface between two bulk phases, compared to the amount that would be present if the bulk concentrations were maintained up to a hypothetical dividing surface. This quantity, also known as surface excess, is a key concept in the Gibbs model of interfaces. It is expressed in units of amount of substance, such as moles.
