Surface barrier semiconductor detector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011628
A type of semiconductor radiation detector fabricated by creating a rectifying junction at the surface of a semiconductor material, typically silicon. This junction forms a depletion region that acts as the active volume for detecting charged particles or photons. The detector operates by collecting electron-hole pairs generated by incident radiation within this region.
