Photoconductive detector

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008830

A radiation detector that operates by changing its electrical conductivity upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation. When photons strike the semiconductor material, they excite electrons into the conduction band, increasing the number of charge carriers and thus the material's conductivity. These detectors are widely used in infrared spectroscopy and imaging due to their high sensitivity in the infrared region.
