Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013695

The region of the electromagnetic spectrum that is perceptible to the human eye, corresponding to wavelengths from approximately 400 nanometers (violet) to about 750 nanometers (red). In photochemistry, absorption of light in this region promotes electrons to higher energy levels, initiating photochemical reactions. The specific wavelengths absorbed by a substance determine its perceived color, as unabsorbed or reflected light is what reaches the observer's eye.
