Bolometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001407
A radiation detector that measures the total power of incident electromagnetic radiation by sensing the temperature change it induces in an absorbing material. The temperature increase causes a change in the electrical resistance of the material, which is then measured. Bolometers are often used for detecting infrared and microwave radiation, operating at cryogenic temperatures for high sensitivity.
