Bolometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003972
An instrument designed to measure the intensity of radiant energy by detecting the heat produced when radiation is absorbed by a blackened metal strip or semiconductor. The change in temperature of the absorbing material causes a change in its electrical resistance, which is then measured. Bolometers are used in meteorology for precise measurements of solar and terrestrial radiation.
