Pressure-sensitive detector

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009412

A device that detects radiation by measuring the pressure change in a gas-filled chamber caused by the absorption of incident radiation energy. The absorbed energy heats the gas, leading to an increase in pressure that is proportional to the radiation's intensity. One example is the Golay cell, which is used for detecting infrared radiation and is capable of operating at room temperature.
