Ionization chamber

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006122

A gas-filled detector used to measure ionizing radiation by collecting the ions and electrons produced when radiation passes through the gas. An electric field is applied across the gas, causing the liberated charges to drift to electrodes, generating a measurable current. This current is proportional to the rate of energy deposition by the radiation.
