Ionization chamber
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006647
A radiation detector that measures the amount of ionization produced in a gas by incident radiation. It consists of a gas-filled chamber with two electrodes, where ions and electrons created by radiation are collected, generating a measurable current. In atmospheric science, these chambers are used to measure background radiation levels and the rate of ion pair production in the air.
