Surface excess energy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011643

The additional energy associated with the molecules at an interface, compared to the energy they would possess if they were in the bulk phase. This energy arises from the different molecular environment and interactions at the surface. It is typically expressed in joules per unit area.
