Free charge density on the interface

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004648

The net electrical charge per unit area that exists at the boundary between two phases, such as an electrode and an electrolyte solution. This charge arises from the adsorption of ions or oriented dipoles, or from the transfer of electrons across the interface. It contributes to the formation of the electrical double layer and influences interfacial phenomena like electrocapillarity.
