Interfacial double-layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005936
An array of charged particles and oriented dipoles that exists at the interface between two phases, such as a solid electrode and an electrolyte solution. One layer of charge is fixed on the surface of one phase, while an adjacent layer of mobile counter-ions forms in the other phase. The structure of this region is described by models including the Helmholtz, Gouy-Chapman, and Stern models, which account for different distributions of ions.
