Surface layer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011652

The region of a phase that is immediately adjacent to an interface and exhibits properties different from the bulk phase. This layer is typically a few molecular diameters thick and is where interfacial phenomena occur. Its characteristics are influenced by the nature of the adjacent phase.
