Interface

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005933

The ideal boundary, treated as a plane of zero thickness, between two phases in contact. The real region of finite thickness in which properties change from one phase to the other is called the interphase or interfacial layer, and the two terms are not synonyms. In electrochemistry the interface between an electrode and an electrolyte solution is where charge transfer occurs and an electrical double layer forms.
