Interconvertible enzyme

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005932

An enzyme whose catalytic activity is regulated by the reversible covalent modification of its structure, typically through phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. This modification alters the enzyme's conformation, changing its affinity for substrates or allosteric effectors. The interconversion between active and inactive forms is catalyzed by other enzymes, such as kinases and phosphatases.
