Effector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003596
A small molecule that binds to a protein, such as an enzyme or receptor, and alters its biological activity or binding affinity. The effector molecule induces a conformational change in the protein, which in turn modifies its function. Effectors are classified as either activators, which increase protein activity, or inhibitors, which decrease it.
