Allosteric site

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012855

A site on an enzyme or receptor protein distinct from the active site, where the binding of a molecule can alter the protein's conformation and modulate its activity. This binding can either enhance or inhibit the protein's function, affecting its affinity for its primary ligand. Allosteric regulation is a key mechanism for controlling biological processes.
