Specific binding

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011099

The reversible interaction between a ligand and a macromolecule, such as a protein or nucleic acid, that occurs at a defined binding site with high affinity and selectivity. This interaction is characterized by its saturability and competition with other specific ligands. Non-specific binding, in contrast, involves lower affinity interactions at multiple sites.
