Cooperativity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002554

A phenomenon observed in multi-subunit enzymes or proteins where the binding of a ligand to one active site influences the binding affinity of subsequent ligands to other active sites. This can lead to either positive cooperativity, where binding increases affinity, or negative cooperativity, where it decreases affinity. Hemoglobin's oxygen binding exhibits positive cooperativity.
