Scatchard equation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010555

An equation for ligand binding to a macromolecule that has a set of independent, identical sites, written r/c = K(n minus r), where r is the number of ligand molecules bound per macromolecule, c the free ligand concentration, K the binding constant and n the number of sites. Plotting r/c against r gives a straight line, the Scatchard plot, whose slope is minus K and whose intercept on the r axis gives n; curvature signals cooperativity or more than one class of site.
