Boundary layer thickness
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001453
The distance from a solid surface into a fluid where the fluid velocity or concentration significantly deviates from the bulk fluid properties due to viscous forces or mass transfer limitations. In analytical chemistry, this concept is relevant in electrochemistry and chromatography, affecting mass transport to and from electrode surfaces or stationary phases. It is typically defined as the distance where the velocity or concentration reaches 99% of its bulk value.
