Liquid-phase film thickness

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006697

The average distance across the stationary liquid layer in a chromatographic column, through which solutes must diffuse to interact with the stationary phase. This parameter influences the efficiency of separation by affecting mass transfer kinetics. A smaller film thickness generally leads to faster equilibration and improved resolution in gas-liquid chromatography.
