Hypsochromic shift

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005558

A shift of an absorption or emission band to shorter wavelengths (higher energy) in a spectrum. This phenomenon is also known as a blue shift. It can be caused by changes in solvent polarity, pH, or molecular conformation that alter the electronic energy levels of the chromophore.
