Dimroth-Reichardt ET parameter

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003227

An empirical parameter used to quantify the polarity of solvents, based on the solvatochromic shift of a specific pyridinium N-phenoxide betaine dye. This dye exhibits a strong color change depending on the solvent's polarity, with the absorption maximum shifting to shorter wavelengths in more polar solvents. The ET(30) value is derived from the transition energy of this absorption band.
