Solvatochromic relationship

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011018

A quantitative correlation between a spectroscopic property, such as the absorption or emission maximum of a compound, and a parameter describing the solvent's polarity or other solvent properties. These relationships are often expressed as linear free-energy relationships, allowing for the prediction of spectral shifts in different solvents. Examples include the Kamlet-Taft and Dimroth-Reichardt ET parameters.
