Solvation energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011017
The change in Gibbs energy when a solute is transferred from the gas phase into a solvent, representing the energetic stabilization of the solute by solvent interactions. This energy includes contributions from electrostatic interactions, dispersion forces, and structural changes in both the solute and solvent. It is a key thermodynamic quantity for understanding solubility, reaction rates, and equilibrium constants in solution.
