Solvation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011016
The process by which solvent molecules surround and interact with solute molecules or ions, forming a solvation shell. These interactions, which can be electrostatic, hydrogen bonding, or van der Waals forces, stabilize the solute in solution. The extent and nature of solvation significantly influence the physical and chemical properties of a dissolved substance, including its reactivity and solubility.
