Solvate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011015
A crystalline adduct formed between a solute and solvent molecules, where the solvent molecules are incorporated into the crystal lattice of the solute. This interaction is distinct from simple dissolution, as the solvent molecules occupy specific positions within the solid structure. When the solvent is water, the solvate is specifically termed a hydrate.
