Dipolar aprotic solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003235
A solvent that possesses a large dipole moment but lacks acidic protons capable of hydrogen bonding. These solvents can effectively solvate cations through their negative dipole end and anions through their positive dipole end, without forming strong hydrogen bonds with the solute. Common examples include dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), and acetonitrile.
