Hydrate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005447
A crystalline solid compound in which water molecules are incorporated into the crystal lattice structure. These water molecules, known as water of crystallization, are present in a stoichiometric ratio with the main compound and are bound through interactions such as coordination to a metal center or hydrogen bonding. The properties of a hydrate, such as solubility and stability, differ from those of the corresponding anhydrous form.
