Hydration
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005448
The process by which water molecules associate with a solute or a surface, forming a hydration shell or layer. This interaction involves non-covalent forces such as hydrogen bonding or ion-dipole interactions. In solution, hydration affects the solubility and reactivity of ions and polar molecules, influencing their behavior in biological and chemical systems.
