Hydration
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002938
The chemical reaction between cementitious materials and water, forming a hardened paste that binds aggregates together in concrete or mortar. This exothermic process produces calcium silicate hydrates and calcium hydroxide, which are responsible for the material's strength development. The rate of hydration is influenced by factors such as temperature, water-cement ratio, and the fineness of the cement particles.
