Ionizing power

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006129

A quantitative measure of a solvent's ability to promote the formation of ions from a covalent substrate. It reflects the solvent's capacity to stabilize separated charges and facilitate charge development in a reaction transition state. This property is often correlated with solvent polarity scales, such as the Dimroth-Reichardt ET parameter.
