Rotatory power
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010432
The ability of a chiral substance to rotate the plane of plane-polarized light, a phenomenon known as optical activity. It is quantitatively expressed as specific rotation, which is an intrinsic property of a chiral compound under specific conditions of temperature, wavelength, and solvent. The direction and magnitude of rotation are characteristic of the enantiomer.
