Rotator phase transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010431
A type of phase transition in which molecules or molecular groups within a solid crystal gain rotational freedom. Below the transition temperature, these groups are orientationally ordered, but above it, they can rotate more freely. This transition is often accompanied by a change in crystal symmetry and an increase in heat capacity.
