Symmetry-conserving transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011730

A phase transition where the crystal symmetry of the material remains unchanged between the two phases. Although the symmetry is conserved, other physical properties, such as lattice parameters or atomic positions, may undergo a continuous or discontinuous change. This type of transition is distinct from those involving a change in space group symmetry.
